This morning, I feel nothing about it being New Year's. And usually there's something, either anticipation of the year ahead or reflecting back on the year that's ended.

Yes, I do have to work today, but...I'm tired. (And I didn't even stay awake for midnight.)

I should probably regret the three funerals I agreed to play in January. But maybe they'll be better for me than sitting around at home.

And now that the days are lengthening again, maybe the light will help.

I don't know. It feels like I need far more of a rest than I can expect to get.

Wow, three funerals lined up already? That's hard. I hope you can get some rest.

Yes, they're all at my former parish, where I tend to have a freer "day job" schedule than their organist, so I end up with a number of funerals and weddings.

They have three funerals in the next week (I'm playing for two of them), and I have another one scheduled for mid-to-late January there.

And, during this morning's service, I noticed what may be the beginnings of a sore throat, so if I'm coming down with something physically, that could definitely be a partial explanation for my lack of New Year's feeling.

Oh, onset of an illness could definitely explain how drained you feel, especially right after the holiday! Hope you can get some rest despite the funerals-- I know they aren't actually a lot of work for me, since I can just pull out a lot of standard repertoire.
